Comparison  of Melchizedeck

and Jesus Christ as to Ancestry

ANCESTRY – Melchizedek

Melchizedek’s ancestry has always been a mystery. Hebrews 7:3 tells us that Melchizedek was without father or mother, without genealogy, made like unto the son of God. From this passage we would assume him to be a heavenly being or the pre-incarnate Son of God. Yet, he was the king of an actual city, Salem, which existed in Abraham’s time. It has been proposed that he was of the righteous line of Noah through Shem.

As we explore this, we find that five people groups came from Shem: Persian, Assyrian, Chaldean, Armenian, and Syrian. Abram was Chaldean, and I am guessing that Melchizedek was Persian. This is based upon the arrival of the 3 Kings of the east from (Persia), who brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the baby Jesus. These 3 kings and their gifts represented the 3 parts of the Messiah’s eternal ministry – Prophet (myrrh), Priest (frankincense), and King (gold). I believe that these kings were representative of the Melchizedek Priesthood.

ANCESTRY – Jesus Christ

1. Pre-incarnate – (from the trinity)

(John 1:1-4 NKJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

(John 1:10 NKJV) He WAS in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.

(John 1:14 NKJV) And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

(John 1:30 NKJV) This is He of whom I (John the Baptist) said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.

(John 3-13 NKJV) No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.

(Romans 8:1-4 NKJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.  For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

These scriptures show the pre-incarnate existence of Christ. They show that His ancestry is that of the Godhead itself. But, He has another ancestry too. It is the ancestry of the righteous line of men on the earth. It was recorded in perfect detail for us by Luke.

2. Ancestry from Adam

(Luke 3:23-38 NKJV) Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Joseph, the son of Mattathiah, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, the son of Msath, the son of Mattathiah, the son of Semei, the son of Joseph, the son of Judah,  the son of Joannas, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er, the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim, the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattathah, the son of Nathan, the son of David, the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah, the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan, the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Note, that the pre-existence ancestry of Jesus Christ is totally supernatural, and totally physical. Also interesting is the Lord God’s (Jehovah’s) prophecy to the serpent, in the Garden of Eden, of the seed of the woman who would crush his (serpent’s) head.

(Genesis 3:15 NKJV) And I {Jehovah} will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.

Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, dealt the blow to satan’s head. From the time that mankind was cut off from the tree of life (in the garden) death reigned. But, from the resurrection, life reigned – for all those who believe.

(1 Corinthians 15:20-28 NKJV) But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.  But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.  Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.  For He must reign until He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.

Melchizedek was a type of this continually existent life (without beginning or end of days), yet the fulfillment is in Jesus Christ who is still living today in the heavens at the right hand of the Father, and with the Holy Spirit –dwelling in His people! Luke 24:50-51 Rom. 8:34, John 17:21;

John 1:17 …for He dwelleth with you and shall be in you….
