The Blood of Jesus

Just as blood was sprinkled seven times on the mercy seat by the high priest, so Jesus blood was shed seven different ways

to pay for the redemption of man.

These colors are used to show five things.

1. the ways Jesus blood was shed

,2. the Old Testament's prophecy of it,

                                               3. the Covenant that it fulfilled,

                                               4  redemption from the curse

                                               5. reference to the future

1. In the garden as He bent His will to the Fathers', it was recorded,  " Being in agony, HIS sweat became as of drops of blood falling down upon the ground." ,   Luke 22:43

The garden was His regular place of prayer. This is where his disciples forsook Him, and where He was betrayed by one of His own.

He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;

and like one from whom men hid their face, He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Is.53:3

This fulfilled the Blood Covenant of Obedience (#5).

Jesus redeemed the curse of Adam and Eve's disobedience here in the garden, by submitting His will to the Father. Remember that Adam and Eve's sin took place in a

garden called Eden (delight), so, it is fitting that the redemption was purchased in a garden also.

"For God has shut up all in disobedience that He might show mercy to all."  Rom. 11:32

3. the Covenant that it fulfilled,

2.  The high priest questioned Jesus concerning his relationship with His disciples and about His teaching.

When Jesus answered Annas , "one of the officers standing beside him gave Jesus a blow saying, "Is that the way you answer the high priest?"  Jn 18:22

He was crushed, humbled and broken for our iniquities

(perverseness and crookedness)   Is 53:5

This fulfilled the Covenant of Relationship (#2).

This beating allowed the curse of the broken relationship between God and man (from Adam's disobedience) to be restored.

"and they shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads." Rev. 22:4

How is that for being accepted in the beloved !

3. He was accused of blasphemy for saying, "I am able to destroy this temple and rebuild it in three days."  For that statement the high priest (Caiaphas), scribes and elders spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others beat him with rods.  Mt.26:67

I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting.  Is 50:6

With that statement of Faith, which was also a prophecy, (concerning the temple of His body),  Jesus fulfilled the Covenant of Faith (#1).

He broke the curse of unbelief off of the Jews !  He shed blood for that too.

Romans 11:20 talks about the branches of the Jews being broken off because of unbelief.

"Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited but fear."

Rev. 21:8 lists unbelief as one of the seven sins which receives the ultimate judgement of the second death ---lake of fire. Thank God that He took this curse upon Himself so that  anyone who desires it, can become free of unbelief.

2. the Old Testament's prophecy of it                              5. reference to the future

4. And wishing to satisfy the multitude, Pilate released Barabas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he delivered him to be crucified.    Mark 15:15

And by His scourging we are healed.   Is 53:5

I gave My back to those who strike Me,

and My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard.  Is 50:6

The punishment, chastisement, and discipline for our peace fell upon Him.     Is 53:5

This fulfills the Blood Covenant of Freedom (#4)

On the Day of Atonement the High Priest laid the sins of the people upon a scape -goat and drove it outside of the city. With this scourging, Jesus took the curse of our sins while Barabas (representing all of us), who should have born his own punishment, was set free. The great exchange was made.

We have been healed and made whole through His scourging.

We receive His Peace at this place too. One of His names is The Prince of Peace.

5.The whole Roman cohort dressed Jesus in purple," and after weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on Him.  They kept beating His head with a reed, and spitting at Him, and kneeling and bowing before Him".    Mark 14:16-19

He was profaned and defiled for our transgression. Is 53:5

I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting.  Is 50:6

So His appearance was marred more than any man,

and His form more than the sons of men.     Isaiah 52:14

This shedding of blood fulfilled the Covenant of the Kingly Priesthood (#7).

With this beating, (note the crown is made with thorns) Jesus redeemed the curse on the ground (earth) that God gave to Adam. in Gen.3:17  " Cursed is the ground because of you;: in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you".

The  Revelation of Jesus Christ

19:13 " And He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood; and His name is called

The Word of God."

19:16  And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written,

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

1. the ways Jesus blood was shed                                  4  redemption from the curse

2. the Old Testament's prophecy of it                              5. reference to the future

3. the Covenant that it fulfilled,

6. And it was the third hour when they crucified Him.    Mark 15:25

" I am poured out like water, and all of my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. 15.  My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And my tongue cleaves to the top of my jaws; And Thou dost lay me in the dust of death.  16 .  For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.

17.  I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me; 18 They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots."     Psalm  22:14-18

The pouring out of His blood ratified the Eternal Covenant (#6)

Gal.3:13,14 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us---for it is written," Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"-----

14 in order that in Christ Jesus  the blessings of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The Eternal Covenant was God putting himself and His ways in us, and now He places the Holy Spirit in us as well.

1 Cor. 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17. If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

7. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water.     John 19:34

They shall look on Him whom they pierced.   Zech. 12:10

This fulfills the Blood Covenant of Passover (#3 ) where the death angel passed over the houses where the blood was applied.

God's curse on Adam  ("For you are dust and to dust you shall return" Gen 3:1)

that allowed death to reign, was broken with this piercing. Please note that the soldiers already found Him dead when He was pierced this time. This blood was truly the blood of death.

This piercing also completed the curse to the "serpent" in Gen.3:14  that the seed of the woman (Jesus) would crush his (Satan's) head, and that he (Satan) would bruise His (Jesus') heel.

The word head is roah in Hebrew. It means to shake at the head, chiefest place, height, or highest part. Heel in Hebrew is Aqeb meaning the heel or end of something (army), to circumvent by tripping up.

Christ says this from His throne; "I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.    Rev. 1:18

Notice that He took the keys -----that means that He controls death and Hades.

Rev. 20:14 tells us that ultimately; "death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire."
